Hello, Recorder enthusiasts! I noticed a lot of people have been requesting Lord of the Rings songs, and thought I could contribute to those who long to play the melodies of those great films.

I dug out my old recorder after about a decade of not playing it and started figuring out some songs. I managed to write out one of the Lord of the Rings themes by ear, but I don`t guarantee that it is perfect, (In fact, I`m sure it`s not) but it sounds pretty close.

I don`t know the name of the song, but it`s a short melody that pops up many many times throughout all three films, and I`m almost positive it is played on a recorder in the films themselves. If you know the name of the song let me know, it is performed by a boys choir at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring, though the one I have written out is more accurate to the short melodies played in the film than the lyrical song

Here you go and enjoy

PLEASE READ THE NOTES BEFORE PLAYING THE SONG, THANKS

Regular/low notes (such as low d`s, regular a`s and b`s, etc.) are in lower-case letters

High notes are in upper-case letters

// This means pause for just a fraction of a second

Note on the f#: The f# for this song I could not find on my fingering sheet. I could not find any fingering for the way I play it/ it`s sound, but it is an F# note (I used a digital Tuner to be sure). To play the F# for this song, hold your fingers over the thumb hole and the first 4 holes of your recorder. If any of you experts know what this note is supposed to be/ can confirm I am right also let me know, I`m not an expert. I`m using an old style recorder (All single holes including the ones at the bottom) I believe it`s called a German Style Recorder and I`m pretty sure it`s a Soprano one.

Note on the c#: This note seems to be less common in a lot of the songs I`ve looked at here. To play the c#, hold your fingers over the first 2 holes of your recorder (Do not cover the thumb hole)

f# High: f# high is played exactly like the f# I described, only you cover the thumb hole halfway instead, like with e #

baTrill: A Trill is a quick alternation between two notes repetitively. It has a very nice sound when done right. This is a little complicated to explain, but easy to do after a little practice. To play the trill, quickly alternate the notes b and a, starting with b, then a, then b, then a, etc. quickly. You`ll know what sounds right when you do it and for how long you should play it for, I do it for about 2-3 seconds in this song

edTrill: Same principle as above.

-----------------------------------------

one of the Lord of the Rings themes (Original Movie theme, as close as I could get it)

d e f# a f# e d
f# a b D c# a f# g f# e
d e f# a f# e d
f# a b // b a f# e d

-----------------------------------------

The following note segments are not necessarily accurate, and were improvised to add more length to the song, I think it sounds nice, hope you do to. If you want pretty close to movie accuracy just play the top 4 rows above. You can hear an example of the top 4 rows of music in Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring around the time Gandalf gets to Bilbo Baggins Hobbit Hole. Play this section right after the first 4 note segments or scroll down further to see my entire interpretation of this song

Second Part (Personal Interpretation to add more length to the song)

d e f# // f# a b // b d e# f#(high) e# d b a baTrill
d e f# a f# e d
f# a b D c# a f# g f# e
d e f# a f# e d
f# a b // b a f# e d
f# e f# g g f# e d edTrill // d

------------------------------------------

A Lord of the Rings theme (entire interpretation by myself. Not all 100% movie accurate)

d e f# a f# e d
f# a b D c# a f# g f# e
d e f# a f# e d
f# a b // b a f# e d

d e f# // f# a b // b d e# f#(high) e# d b a baTrill
d e f# a f# e d
f# a b D c# a f# g f# e
d e f# a f# e d
f# a b // b a f# e d
f# e f# g g f# e d edTrill // D

I hope you enjoyed this interpreation of a beautifully played song from Lord of the Rings, it`s the least I can do in thanks for all you other folks posting songs up which I have been learning, I really enjoy this forum and playing my recorder again as a new relaxing hobby.

If I come up with anything else I`ll be sure to post it. Have fun!

I claim no ownership of the original song, this is merely an interpretation of the original song by ear since I could not find sheet of music for it, and is only played by me for fun and relaxation. Oh, and one more thing, if you post this interpretation on your personal webspace or something please throw a link to this post, I`d appreciate it
