I have bought a recorder some time ago, a cheap Hohner.

The fingering chart that came with it has an 8 over the treble clef, what does that mean?

it means the music is to be played one octave higher. So, instead of low C you play high C. You often find this in treble recorder music. It will sounds just as good if you play it as you`ve learned it.
