I don`t have any composition programs, but I work at a school, and one of the music staff helps. She uses noteworthy. I record my stuff on CD or cassette, and she does the rest.

Hi - I'm working my way through Music Creator from Cakewalk, like having a whole recording studio on your desktop. It's a bit complicated, but I'm getting there - and it's really cheap on Amazon.co.uk to buy. I can connect my keyboard and just import the sound from that, or from a mike... I'm still learning all the ins and outs of it though, its complicated!

Hi Anne-Marie! Music Creator is really cool, just very complicated to begin with - I'm still working my way through the tutorials that came with the software. But unlike a number of other recording programs which can be outgrown, I think this has everything for the composer/recording artist.

I've no idea why some use Finale - perhaps it's easier! LOL!

I think Sibelius really is the ultimate but it's very expensive. I use PrintMusic (related to Finale) and it's okay but one day I want to buy Sibelius which we use at school. try Ebay but most of the Sibeliuses are illegal copies. You need to be careful.

Hey--
I just got software called Notion and it was extremely helpful and a huge timesaver. Unlike Finale or Sibelius, Notion doesn’t require learning how MIDI works. And the manual is very easy to read and comes with a list of keyboard short cuts! Very helpful for a beginner like me! Within a few hours I was very comfortable with the application. I would highly recommend Notion, and the reason I’m telling y’all this is that right now they are offering a free demo version. The software is expensive, so this is a great way to test it out before you shell out the doe. I think the free demo is in conjunction with some sort of contest. Seems pretty cool and might be worth checking out?! I’ll look for the link and it post it later on if I find it.
