Do any of you like John Williams music? Do any of you not like him? I personally think that his music sounds fantastic, but his true talent lies in his ability to wonderfully orchestrate simple themes and motifs.

John Williams is my favourite composer.
I think he's the best composer in hollywood and in nowadays. I'm living in Hungary and everyone knows who know him
that he only add concerts whithin USA borders. But there will be a great performance in Hungary at Budacastle to the honor of John Williams' 75. birthday.
Williams won't at in this gala concert
but the orchestra will play his best scores. I look forward it!

He is a really great composer. I'm really amazed by his ability to create so many tunes that are so memorable. How many people are there that can do so.

To be honest, I don't know anyone who doesn't like John Williams, so stupid question, much?
xD, He conducted the Boston Pops for a long time, and I grew up listening to them perform on July Fourth in Boston.

Yeah, the new composer has written some pretty forgettable themes. It's sort of like the original Pirates of the Caribbean and the second one. The first was written by Klaus Badelt and the second was written by Hans Zimmer. Zimmer did some poor orchestrations of Badelt's original themes, or at least in my opinion.

okay... you asked, and i shall answer. John Williams is NOT my favourite composer. *runs and ducks* PERSONALLY, i think his music isn't anything to rave about. HOWEVER (god i love emphasising words) he is truly talented, and if he sat down to write something and had the time to make it right, and make it really epic, it would blow me away.
John Williams is clever. Creative. Broad-ranging. But he is not overly-spell-binding. in my opinion

I just Googled his name. John Williams is a Dentist in Clarksburg, MD, I doubt he is the best composer in the world. Yet, he might have composed the not so famous Symphony of a root canal in AAAHHH Major pain!

I personally enjoy Williams' film scores very much, but I haven't had the fortune to hear any of his serious works. I really loved the score to War of the Worlds - it seemed to echo from Stravinsky, much like the score for Jaws. It would the greatest thing to hear his bassoon concerto, The Five Sacred Trees, if I could find it...

well, you know that stravinsky once said:
"A good composer learns to steal"
and I believe that John williams has done that. He also has an obsession with triplets and things that sound like them. I just wish he would write an oboe concerto.
:P

I think it is good that movies nowadays have such good music. And that "classical" music in general has atleast some place to flourish in.
As for John Williams, I think he is fabulous. I have played the "schindler's list" theme on the violin, and I've also heard it played live in such a way that all the old ladies in the audience started to weep.
And it's quite fascinating that JW pieces are played even in my little hometown of Turku (Finland) by the local symphony orchestra. An entire concert with only Harry Potter pieces for an example!

Ha, ha, ha! AHHHHH Major? Get it?
I actually laughed when I read that. John Williams does love triplets. I've arranged a few pieces by him for concert band, and his music for HP and Star Wars is filled with them. Even Raiders March (Indiana Jones) has a million triplets. You should see the string parts for The Imperial March. Uggghhhh...I would hate to have been in the London Symphony Orchestra playing violin when they recorded it.

It's a pretty part, that march. I love how he has the theme come again and again but in different keys and moods...My favorite one is when the French Horn has its solo and the orchestra is accompanying it with syncopated rhythms! Brilliant...triplets and the Raiders march doesnt have that many triplets in it FYI...The most brilliant thing he has ever written is the Jaws theme... He didn't rip it off of NEW WORLD SYMPHONY by Dvorak just so you guys know. I have all the arrangements to his scores...(which I've made). I think my arrangements are more complex than his original scores...lol
