I want to buy a copy of either Sibelius 5 or Sibelius student. I like writing for less commonly used instruments (e.g. E flat soprano flute, contrabassoon, Oboe D'Amore) and want to be able to have as many parts in a piece as I want. So, which one do you all think that I should get, Student or 5? My dad wants to get me Student, but I don't like the looks of the comparisons on the comparison chart. (it's almost the same as Finale Notepad, which I use right now)

i would definatly buy the full version of sibelius, although it is like three xs as much. I mistakenly bought the student version and realised that you could only compose for a couple of instruments, not full orchestral score and there is not any abstract instruments!!!

Sibelius 5 is like ooober profesinal, i think i cost like 600 bucks. i can see why your dad would want you to get a student version. i think you should look into the finale's alegro version it only cost 200 but i'm not sure if it will have the intruments you are looking for.
