I'm writing a composure for clarinet, saxophone and piano. I'm having trouble deciding what style each part should have. I play clarinet and a little bit saxophone but I don't play piano. Any tips?

I don't know if this would help but, write whatever comes to mind! I wrote a piece titled, "Divergence". I wrote this during the summer and it was just stuff that came to my mind. Go to my page to listen to it!

Even if you don't play the instrument, you can do worse than sit down and plunk away on it. All too often these days, people don't write for instruments (they imagine they are, but they're really just writing for computer ). Many composers have sat and improvised (or just plunked), at a piano or something else, as the first stage in their composition. Stravinsky, for instance, was a famous plunker!
