i am currently on the market for a new mouthpiece, right now i play a vintage Bach Mt. Vernon 12, which plays alright, but i am looking for something that will aide me to a larger, darker sound. mouthpieces that i am considering, are: Laskey 70F, Schilke 30, or a Holton/Farkas DC. has anybody played any of these mouthpieces, and if so can you please tell me what you think about them? i am leaning towards the Lakey 70F, or the Schilke.

I changed to using PHC series a while ago (http://www.horncups.com) These allow you to use a cup appropriate to the music and the state of your lips while retaining the same rim.
If you want a Conn 8D sound, I dont think simply changing your mouthpiece is going to do the trick. Using a heavy weight mouthpiece might help but not as much as playing on a heavier horn or using a horn blob (see http://www.hornsaplenty.com).
A good teacher will have a selection of mouthpieces you can try as will a good music shop. If they dont have a reasonable selection - dont be pushed into buying what they have if it doesnt feel right!

yesterday, i went to the local music shop and tryed some mouthpieces. i purchased a silver plated schilke 30. great piece, and way better than a bach. its gives a great tone, clear articulation, and warm sound. thanks for the advice anyway.
