Is it that wierd a combination? My dad says its a good combo, my previous teacher is the one who put me onto jazz trombone, and my prior private teacher says that those two instruments really shouldnt go together. Anyone have an opinion?

The techniques are quite different but providing you keep practicing both, I dont see a problem.

Go for it! I played trombone my sophomore year for marching season, then went back to horn for concert season. I love the 'bone. Such an acoustically perfect instrument! I know an adult brass player who plays 3 different instruments for his local community symphony as needed: trumpet, horn & trombone. He believes the combo actually helps him. His experience on trumpet has given him a superior edge when it comes to range on French horn. Like me, he is a Jeff Smiley Balanced Embouchure enthusiast.

I took trombone lessons as a secondary instrument in Grad School.
I found that it really helped me use my air better when I was playing horn. Coincidently, I chose trombone because I wanted work on jazz.
