I was a horn player years ago but my instrument (an old Don Getzen compensating double) was stolen. Recently I have been getting a major urge to pick the instrument up again.

What are some good used full double models (say, the better intermediates or lower-price pros) that I might have a chance at finding for a reasonable price? (My goal is overall good condition for not much more than $1200). And what characteristics should I and the expert I hope to bring along look for when trying them out?

A Conn 6D is a pretty good intermediate model horn. You can find them used for under $1500 most of the time.
