Hey I am looking at a professional tuba to buy, but am not sure which way to go. I have seen some 5 valve BBb tubas and some with 4 compensating valves. I know that, for instance, using 1 and 4 on a non-compensating valve is sharp, but is it on a compensating one since there is extra tubing? THANKS

It isn't supposed to be sharp on a compensating one. But a compensating tuba is a waste of money, you should be able to adjust everything with the use of your lips and slides.

Another thing, is if you are looking at a professional tuba, I would consider a CC, much higher quality and almost instantly improve your tone quality.

I have a BBb yamaha tuba with three valves but am going to play one with 4 in a couple of days.
