The brass teacher at our school has been off ill for around two weeks and is likely to be for a lot longer. I'm not a euphonium player myself, but our only player is having trouble with her instrument. She's playing a Yamaha YEP-201 and the second valve always sticks down. It presses down no problem but then sticks there and she has to yank it up, it's very difficult. So far I have cleaned out the casing and the piston, tried using a different oil (Fast oil, in case it helps) but nothing has worked. We have a concert in just over a week's time! Can anybody help?
For your comment about there being no Euphonium forum, there is really no use for one. The euphonium, or baritone tuba, is part of the tuba family.
It may be the spring as the person above mentioned. But another thing that Yamaha's are synonymous for are their white little plastic inserts on top of the valve (when you open up the casing). If it is misaligned it will not come back up... Might want to check that.
Open the valve cap, and twist the stem a bit, then realign the plastic white thing until it sits down on the valve flat.
The only other possible thing (rare) that I would see wrong with it would be the valve or the casing was bent. The only way that could be "Diagnosed" would be by a teacher or a music instrument repairer.
