Check out the new album by pianist Kyle Pederson titled 12.25. Ostensibly a Christmas album, the recording also contains some music that you could enjoy year-round, especially the tracks “In The Bleak Midwinter,” “Gabriel’s Message” and “Lo How a Rose,” if only because those melodies are not as well-known as some of the others and are not strictly associated with Christmas.
In addition, you may be surprised that the specific Christmas tunes (like “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”) have completely new arrangements like you have never heard before. Pederson wrote so much new music for these classics, that you only hear the well-known melodies drift in and out which gives the project a fresh perspective on traditional sounds.
Now is the time to get some of this innovative music. It will freshen up your Christmas CD collection by giving you a much different-sounding option when you are trying to decide which bunch of carols to regale the eggnog crowd with this year.
