Luna Blanca - El Dorado
LUNA BLANCA is now one of the most popular groups in the world playing modern flamenco guitar music. Their latest CD is EL DORADO and it is a winner.
All of their music features great melodies written by lead guitarist Richard Hecks and pianist Helmut Graebe. While many tunes are joyous, upbeat, highly-rhythmical and good for parties and dancing (such as the lead-off track “Los Ojos”), there are also a number of beautiful slow-paced compositions. The soft and gentle music includes the very slow “Medianoche” (with piano and harmonica added to the guitars), plus “Dreaming” (which includes a little wordless singing and some trumpets), “Conquistador” (the one tune that seems to feature regular rhythm guitarist Bino Dola stepping into the composing and lead guitar seat), and “Puesta del Sol” (which features lots of piano as well as string orchestration).
There is music on this CD to appeal to everyone. While the flamenco-esque guitars are spotlighted the most, there are a variety of other instruments and sounds mixed in to keep it interesting. To hear the very latest in the so-called nouveau-flamenco genre, check out this cutting-edge CD.
