Nadaka & Gopika - CD Review - Surya Chants of Light
In music there are many different types of world-fusion, but a classic example is the new album by Nadaka & Gopika, SURYA CHANTS OF LIGHT, which mixes traditionally-sung vedic mantra chants with the accompaniment of a specially-designed electro-acoustic guitar that is capable of creating both Western music as well as sounds and micro-tones from India.
The male and female singing of the chants is absolutely authentic and true to the traditions passed down by the rishis in India for the past four-thousand years, while the soft, gentle backing music is a combination of Western-style and raga-esque (except for a little percussion, all the music is created on Nadaka’s one unique raga geet-tar).
This is meaningful awe-inspiring music. If you like chants, listen to how Nadaka & Gopika take it to the next level. If you have never gotten into chant music, listen to how they sing the chants on the fourth and fifth tunes, and prepare to become a believer. The music can be sampled and purchased at a variety of online music stores (use your search engine to find this recording).
