Hello,

I have transcribed Charlie Parker's solo for "Chi Chi". Now, I feel I need to know the changes in order to analyse it
but don't feel ready to figure them out myself.

Does anyone know where I can find chord progressions for Charlie Parker tunes, online? (Or, could someone who has it post it here?)

The song is "Chi Chi (Alt take 2)", from the album "Now's The Time".

Thanks.

Isn't "Chi Chi" just a blues?

OK – I've just checked it out. Blues in Ab (concert).

Q: Are you familiar with the "regular" substitutions that get used in 12 blues progressions?

well I did know that such thing existed,
I've seen quite a few different "versions" of the blues.
don't know which one would be the regular though

here's one I have but I don't think it matches

I7 | IV7 | I7 | v-7 I7 |
IV7 | #iv˚ | I7 | iii-7(b5) VI7alt |
ii-7 | V7alt | I7 VI7alt | ii-7 V7alt |

can you write me down which changes you'd use?
thanks a lot

I've got "sub-optimum" listening conditions right now so I'm not picking up everything, but bars 6, 7 & 8 sound like they're going in this direction ...

iv-7 bVII7 | iii-7 VI7 | biii-7 bVI7

... but varying from chorus to chorus. (And, presumably, take to take.)

Anyhow, the guide tones through these bars are really straight-forward. Re: comping – you'd just have your LH poised above the 3rds & 7ths ready to drop them in here and there. Lots of space ... and give Mr Parker plenty of elbow room!

understood.
then when it comes to analysing Charlie's sax solo, I suppose he's playing over either a very basic 12 bar blues, or making up his own changes free from the rhythm section? could be?
