Hi,

I have been trying to learn a how to reharmonise songs. I would particularly like to reharmonise the famous gospel No Amazing Grace in the key of F. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions while doing this.

I have got this type of thing going at the moment

C+ Dm7/f Gm7 Am7 Db7/Ab Bb/C F
A - ma - zing Grace, how sweet the sound

Em7 Dm7 G7/B Bb/C
That saved a wretch like me

This is ok, sounds more like black gospel than Jazz but I would be grateful if some experts on chord substitution could give me some tips.

Cheers

Paul

Try something like

[: Fmaj7, | A-7,Ab-7 | G-9, | C13b9, (Db9) |

Fmaj7, | A-7,D7alt | G-9, | C7alt, |

C-9,F7alt | BbMaj7,Bb-9/Eb | FMaj7, C7alt | F69, C13b9 :]

Maybe a little similar to really common progressions, but it works.
