When the Port Turns Into a Stage: The ELBJAZZ Festival in Hamburg

After last year’s successful premiere the ELBJAZZ Festival is coming up again. On May 27 and 28 the port of Hamburg will again turn into a major stage for Jazz music: More than 50 concerts, extraordinary venues, an extensive supporting program and the harbour scenery contribute to the unique character of the ELBJAZZ Festival.

The program shows Jazz in all its colours – American Star bassist Charlie Haden and
his Quartet West, Scottish Shooting Star Paolo Nutini, Funk Unit with Swedish Trobonist Nils Landgren , singers like Maria João and Kurt Elling, Jazz-DJ Nicola Conte and – just in time for his 75th birthday – different formations led by German Jazz-Legend Klaus Doldinger.

Music is played open air and indoor on small and large stages on extraordinary venues in and around the port of Hamburg and the HafenCity. With venues like the Lounge Theatre, the imposing Blohm+Voss dockyards and the traditional cargo ship, the festival conquers new spaces for Jazz music. The audience can take the barge shuttle to get from one venue to the next so that even a harbour boat trip is included in the ELBJAZZ experience.
