This is open to anyone who likes jazz!

Since we`ve been asking questions and giving advice for a long time now on this site, I think it`s finally time to share our passion for jazz!

List what instrument(s) you play, your favorite genre(s) of jazz, your biggest influence (or favorite jazz musician), and best CD and/or favorite song(s). Also, it would be helpful to everyone to list your age, either grade in school or whether you`re an amateur or professional, and a broad where-a-bouts you`re from.

I`m 17 years old. I`m going to be a senior in high school in the fall. I live in the Albany-area in New York.

For jazz, I play piano. I like a lot of the earlier jazz, like swing, be-bop, and hard bop (I actually have a good preference towards the last one mentioned). My favorite pianist and the one who`s had the greatest impact on me so far is Bill Evans. However, I`ve really been checking out McCoy Tyner a lot lately, and I`m really getting to like him almost as much as Bill Evans!

Liking Bill Evans, I also like a lot of his compositions. Naming some include "Turn out the Stars", "One for Helen", and "Very Early".

Besides his tunes, I like a lot of other songs too! To name some of my favorites off the top of my head include, "Four", "Recorade-Me", and "Star Eyes". I`ve also recently been really enjoying Thad Jones` "Consumation" (The CD), and I really like "Dedication", "Fingers", and "A Child is Born". (Those are songs done with his Big Band).

However, my tastes can change a lot, so those listed above may not be my favorites, say, next week.

Let`s all share our common heritage- jazz!

Hi

I am 15 and am your all-around reeds player... I play what I feel like playing at the moment (Usually Alto Saxophone or Bb Clarinet).. :p

I am an amateur on my way up in Great Falls, Montana (Go Johnnie Mac Bands! lol)...

My favorite genres of jazz are Dixieland (Or Traditional) and Swing...

My first inspiration was Benny Goodman (Of course... :p)... After that, a very cool reeds player named John Goodrich kept me going and improving on my playing...

Some of my favorite jazz tunes include~

"I`ve Got a New Baby" Benny Goodman
"In the Mood" Glenn Miller Orchestra
"Heebie Jeebies" Louie Armstrong
"Big Bear Stomp" ???

Hey!

I`m 16 and going to be a junior this year. I love jazz, swing, big band, and most of all dixie music! I play clarinet mostly.

Biggest influence is definitely Benny Goodman. He is absolutly amazing, and if you dont have a cd of him, you should get one. Or go to www.swingera.net/bgoodman.html It has a bunch of pieces to listen to.

Hmm...other favorites, one is definitely the Dukes of Dixieland. They are so great. Otherwise, of course I love all the basics, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong etc.
