Clash City rockers- the clash
Stairway to heaven - Led Zeppelin
Last Caress - Metallica
5 to 1 - The Doors
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
my personal favorites are townshend and dylan.
by townshend, i think his greatest accomplishments lyrically are pure and easy, behind blue eyes, my generation, and substitute. by dylan, like a rolling stone, the times they are a-changin, positively 4th street and tangled up in blue.
hmm i don't have a favourite lyrical song but i like a few peoples work
1. David Gilmour, Richard Wright (Pink Floyd)
2. Noel and Liam Gallagher (Oasis)
3. Radio Head (only heard Karma Police)
4. Kurt Cobain (NIRVANA)
5. Johnny Van Zant (lynyrd Skynyrd)
6. Ville Valo (H.I.M)
7. michael stipe (R.E.M)
8. Bob Dylan
gotta be Time by Pink Floyd or Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan

my fave song writers are
1: Bob Dylan
2: Jimi Hendrix
3: Keith Richards and Mick Jagger
4: Roger Waters and David Gilmour
5: George Harrison
6: John Lennon and Paul Mcartney
7: Jerry Garcia
8: Jim Morrison
9: Pete Townshend
10: Don Henley
My favorite modern song writers would have to be: My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco. My favorite older song writers would have to be: Green Day's (older stuff) and I'll probably stick with The Misfits.
I'd say that one of the best lyric writers that many people don't consider is Johnny Cash. "Sunday Morning Comin Down" "A Boy Named Sue" and "Folsom Prison Blues" are all well written. But if we are talking about the best of the best then there are only 2 words left to say...... Bob Dylan
