I think his name is Jason White. They have a lot of layered guitars on American Idiot, so they needed a second to get the sound right.

and those solos on AI are REALLY technical (note the sarcasm), so it really wouldn`t surprise me if Billy Joe couldn`t do much past the power chords he uses in 99% of the songs he`s written (good riddance being the only one i can think of that he doesn`t use them in, but even that is basic chords like C and G)
I really don`t mind Green Day, but a good guitarist billie joe is not.

Jason White isnt the 4th member of gd...... He is a friend who is a good guitarist. He plays guitar too because Billie have to do much other things on stage. For example scream, shout, shout, run to the left or run to the right, and many many many many more. He doesnīt stand there and sing. He makes show for the people who like their music... You canīt have longview! Because there is action and itīs great.
Oh and of course Billie IS a very good guitarist, songwriter and singer. Such as Mike is very good on his base and Tre the best drummer....
Like them or not!
I just ask me why people, who donīt like a band, are so interesting then in these things you write or ask.....

Um, Bille Joe isnt a good guitarist in any way. Also he sings like hes from the UK, & his songwriting is weak.
Make no mistake - Green Day are one of the most popular bands on earth right now because of image & promotion alone. Music didn`t have much to do with it... Never does.

Anyway Billy joe aint a good guitarist. Greenday don`t even have solos. Good ones anyway. I don`t want this thread to turn into a WE HATE GREENDAY thing. SO thanks guys for clearing up the mystery of the 4th member.
