Vocal Training

Hello, I just joined 8 notes. My husband is a professional vocalist. He's been in bands for 20+ years. I also enjoy singing (see my video on my profile). He is now teaching me how to sing harmony. Any tips?
Most of his training is from Jaimie Vendera's Raise your Voice book/dvd (www.buildabettervoice.com) and he specializes in the classic high pitch wailing of 80's hair metal.
My style of singing & interest in music is completely different from his. I am concerned that his form of harmony is not the kind I want to learn. Is all harmony the same? are there different forms of harmony for various genres?
