i totally agree with fred`s 3 choices...here are some others:
Joe Strummer - not technicially a great singer, but he had passion, in some of his best stuff, you become totally engrosed in his singing.
Michael Stipe - IMO, one of the best singers of the last 20 years.
Ian Brown and Morrissey are also personal favourites....
The best singers as a group, are without a doubt The Beach Boys, there is no band that come close in terms of harmonys, apart from prehaps, Big Star.
