Melody and Silence
Philip Howie
for Flute
 119 votes,   Average: 4.72   Plays: 1935

A thoughtful, reflective piece for flute and piano, inspired in part by celtic melodies, particularly the compositions of the flautist Simeon Wood. Separate flute and piano parts are available for download from http://people.pwf.cam.ac.uk/prh33/music.html. Note that the Sibelius playback doesn't do justice to the ornaments in the flute part; I've tried to correct that in the midi file and mp3 file. This piece is dedicated to Harriet Johnston, a close friend and fellow flautist.

This was lovely. I don't think it was the best ending though, I think there was a better one earlier on where everyone thought it was about to end. However it really is lovely. Add a guitar and I think it would sound even better.

If I was to play this at church, I would have to substantially cut out the intro because it would be too long.

i enjoyed it very much! it was a well-played simple melody, with lots of haughty echo and beautiful vibrato

This is excellent! Everything flows very smoothly. I would love to hear this played with an acoustic or classical guitar added. Great composition.
