Instrumentation for this piece, basically a wind quintet without the bassoon, was suggested by a local person with years of university and community experience in a musically lively, but rural community. His basic thesis: Bassoons are hard to come by. Leave it out if you want to hear your piece played.
The parts are intricately connected, so the first sight reading may be disappointing.
