I'm retired and at 50 something I've never played an instrument or learned to read music. I decided 10 months ago to learn something musical and chose the violin. While I have progressively bought better and more expensive violins & bows (now have 3 violins and 4 bows) my playing has not gotten progressively better. I'm thinking now that it's not the instruments but the player and the music teacher I've hired tends to agree. Patience and practise are the key to a better sound.
