Profile
Hi, Forum! My name is Jim Millen. I have been playing the flute for 40+ years. I`ve had four different teachers (all symphony men and women). My only two flutes have been a Haynes and Powell. I started in percussion, in our high-school band. Then, I heard a marvelous flutist play --- and decided that was the instrument for me. I hope I bring a lot to the forum regarding playing, but am weak on flute construction, head-joints, etc. Hope I can contribute something to the forum. This picture was taken some 20+ years ago, in the dressing room, just before a recital at the Chicago Public Library Conservatory. Best regards: Jim
Interests
Aside from caring for my pets (animal-lover), my biggest interest is in playing the flute. I work with the Tauffnel/Gaubert books, as well as the Moyse "48 studies of virtuosity" This keeps me busy in my retirement years. I also love videography, and am a fan of "classic" movies (30s' -- 40s'). I earned my money the "old-fashioned way" --- real estate and remodeling. In a better life, I would have been a symphony player, recital artist, or recording artist. Life takes "different" turns for us, doesn't it? Oh, well. I play, just for my enjoyment.
