I am considering buying a used French horn for my daughter, a Conn 8D with Serial Number 833176 with a detachable Lawson Ambronze bell. The horn is in great condition and plays well. Can you tell when the horn body was made and at which Conn Factory? I had been presuming the Eastlake OH but want to be sure it was not the Abliene TX. I have not evaluated the rotors yet to see if they are tapered but I suppose that will be the tell tale sign if from Eastlake or Abilene. I saw a discussion on this site related to id' ing 8D Conn so I wanted to ask here. The bell tail has the engraving C.G Conn 8D USA. Could this be an Eastlake horn? Serial no. on the second valve body 833176. By the way my daughter loves this horn and wants it. She has only tried this one and one other 8D to date.
The price for this horn is around $3K.
