I'm in need of an updated profile.

I'm an oboist. Oboe is the instrument for me. I loved the oboe since the day I first picked up that cheap rental one from the music store. I've been playing oboe for 3 1/2 (about that) years.
I love making oboe reeds, too. Even though it can get stressful, it's still more fun than buying all of my reeds from my teacher, although when I have festivals/concerts, I usually get a reed from her for free.I usually make one reed (or 2 or 3) every week, so I have a new one to play on. It took me all of 3 years to learn how to make them, quite a while compared to some people.

My "semi-main" instrument is the piano. I've been taking piano lessons since January, and am making big improvements on it every week. It gets more fun every lesson. Now, I'm working on learning some Clementi Sonatinas, and playing in my level 5 lesson/repertoire books.

I also just bought a student violin to learn to play. I don't have a teacher, but I'm gonna teach myself with method books and such, the same way I taught myself the flute.

I play on a 30-year old Gemeinhardt (sp?) flute, that was my mom's in high school. Surprisingly (to most), it sounds wonderful, even though it's a closed hole. Flute is sort of a hobby to me.

For a couple of months, I played the soprano saxophone. I didn't get to buy it, but to be honest, it wasn't my favorite instrument and was too heavy for me.

Also, the first instrument I ever played (other than recorder) was the clarinet. I progressed on it "too quickly" meaning it was too easy for me, so my previous teacher suggested that I switch to oboe. I'm glad I did.
Interests
1. Playing oboe (then flute, piano, sax in order from fave to least fave)
2. Playing The Sims 2
3. Playing Guitar Hero
4. my dog, Lincoln (see profile picture)
5. my cat, Missy
6. chatting on online forums with others who share my interests
7. Reading (fantasy) J.R.R Tolkien rules!
8. Composing Music. I do little of this, but I'm trying to make my pieces great right now; yous should see more soon.

That is a brief list of all of my interests. :)

My instrument wish list:
1. English Horn
2. Wood Oboe
3. alto flute
4. Piccolo
5. Soprano Sax

My favorite composers. That`s very hard to say. I`ll have to say that my favorites are J.S Bach, Telemann, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Poulenc, and Benjamin Britten (for his "Six Metamorphoses after Ovid).

And I sooo want to buy Sibelius 5! I need new composition software......NEED it!

I wish I could afford to get a Loree! I have always wanted one, but my parents would probably make me pay for most of it (or all of it) like their making me pay for my English horn! lol

Thanks. I just changed it to a pic of the top of my new Lorée Royal (well, new to me; it's 2 years old, was stolen from Midwest Musical Imports, and they had just gotten it back when Mom called asking about renting-to-own one). I love it! It's beautiful and has a great sound. I can't wait to go to Interlochen in 1 1/2 weeks! :D

Sorry for no reply until now. I wasn't at the near of my pc.
It can be a good song, but it still needs a lot of work on it. Write some more theme in your piece. Transpose some parts into another key making it more interesting. Play with speed. And NEVER write music when you're bored but you haven't got any good idea at the moment. It makes the pieces forced. (Anyway I never could compose for piano , however it's my instrument, only for Orchestra.) Sorry for the critics but it needs some more work on it to contruct it well.

I had an audition for the Interlochen Academy this Friday. It went really well, and was a lot of fun. The oboe professor really wants me, but we have to see how much in financial aid the school will offer. I'm so excited!

Also, I made the first youth orchestra I tried out for this year. I still have plenty more, but it makes me feel good that I know that I have one I can play in.

It's going great, I'm just really busy.

I practiced too much piano and flute this week, and not enough oboe, so my embouchure is a little messed up. This week, I'm gonna compensate by virtually no flute practice (just a couple of run-thrus of my music) and a bit less piano. I need my proper embouchure back, which I haven't totally gotten used to since I got my new teacher.

In youth orchestra, we're playing movie themes. Stuff from Harry Potter, LOTR, Titanic, and stuff like that, as well as the Sound of Music and West Side Story (even though I'm 2nd chair there, I'm playing 1st oboe, since I don't have an english horn).

I'm mainly busy preparing for solo & ensemble, which is in a month, and working on making my reeds, and school (which takes up about 60% of my time nowadays). Thank God Spring break is next week.

Hi, so how's oboe playing going for you?

I was at church orchestra, and I was telling the flutist next to me how well in tune my flute was today when I was practicing. She asked what type it was, and how old it was.

It's about 30 years old (it was my mom's in high school, and she's in her 40's now) and a Geminhardt (I think that's how it is spelled).
She was surprised that it still played really well. It's a closed-hole, not open-hole, and it plays really well, ecause my mom got it serviced regularly, even when she was not regularly playing it.

Note: I'm taking off my PDF files. the song of the birds is not returning, and I'll redo the wind quintet and make something else. I have the comments saved

Just to get opinions, I'm leaving the oboe-clarinet duet and oboe-viola duet available to listen to.
