pipurrcat

tenorsaxist
Hi Abby,
As it has been forever since I have said hello,
I thought maybe I'd send my regards. I like your dog, although I'm more a large dog person myself (St. Bernard big).
Enjoy your february.
OboeNightmare
Is she scared of lightening and stuff or does it bother her?
Canadian
My youth orchestra hasn't started yet. I really want to play Tombeau de couperin! If you have not listened to it you should. It has amazing oboe solos in it. I love bizet and debussy as well. I just want to play something really fun.
Canadian
Wow congratulations on making 1st chair! You'll have tons of fun playing all of the lovely solos on oboe AND english horn! How fun! I'm extremely excited for my youth orchestra! I can't wait to try the fox 500 or 510 english horn. I just need to safe up some more money! Ahaha.
Canadian
I just played an english horn today and I am blown away! I tried the fox 555 and it was pretty nice. I really want to try the 510 or 500! Such a lovely instrument!!!!
OboeLover4Life
O that's great. Playing with others is tons of fun.
Are you playing on your own horn or using the groups?
Canadian
You should look at the neotech neck straps. They are very comfortable and not too pricey.
OboeLover4Life
lol my pleasure. It's very nice to meet you ^-^.
Btw You sound fantastic on your English Horn solo. And congrats on such exceptional awards.
Canadian
You'd be amazed at what some scissors and a sewing machine can do!
Canadian
Well, today I found another neckstrap lying around my house. So I cut it up and attached it onto my old neckstrap. Now I've got a perfect, long, neckstrap! I can't wait til I can use it once I get my eh!
Canadian
My neckstrap (if I fold it in half) is only 20 inches... I'm not too sure if that's too short, is it?
Canadian
Just a few more eh quesitons!
What brand of neckstrap do you use? I think I have a neotech sax one here. I'm wondering if It'll work.
Also, any real changes from oboe to eh difficult? I know about looser embouchure and everything. How's the half hole?
Canadian
I've seen foxes eh's but they don't seem all that great. But loree's are $$$$ same as marigaux. Have you ever played eh in an orchestra?
Canadian
I know! My loree sounds WAY better than my yamaha. Loree's are just so beautiful and so dark and rich! I love them! I can't wait to see what english horn my school has. I hope it's a loree or marigaux!
Canadian
I really want to try some marigauxs! I'm trying out a used yamaha 411 (older 441) full grenadillia oboe right now. I've been playing it outside a LOT because I don't want to play on my loree and it's a really solid instrument. No cracking yet!
Canadian
Wow! Lorees are such beautiful instruments! Did you try any marigaux?
oboegirl
After play testing 7 oboes, I finally decided on a beautiful, brand-new AK bore Loree! It has such a beautiful tone, and I love it lol. :D
peaceloveoboe
me too! it really just makes me happy to sit by myself and just play.
Canadian
I love your English Horn Sonata! Very nice tone, intonation, and vibrato! Who wrote the sonata? I'd love to play it one day.
peaceloveoboe
just practice... a lot haha. ive been spending all of my time trying to get togetther this make shift band camp that i havent even played since school let out! youll sound great
peaceloveoboe
my friend jake plays bassoon! (plus like 15 other instrument... he picks them up and can play it makes me so mad) and my friend isaac is amazing. love those guys but it seems soooo hard! i wish you the absolute best of luck. im sure youll do fine
peaceloveoboe
thanks! ugh my head is spinning. inventory in the band room means playing wayyyy too many different instruments one after another. at least i got pizza! and i still need to practice myself... thanks mr. k. but yeah i first things first, audition piece
peaceloveoboe
thats small! i cant even imagine having less than 100! athough we are losing about 25 amazing seniors and barly have the same in freshman coming up:/ but it may be for the best many seniors left because as amazing as our band director is, he was too close with many of them that hed rather hang out than direct at times. i mean its great to be friends with everyone (we buffed his nails in the music library and he played super nintendo with us this week. finals week! we sit in the band room with pizza, nail polish and old video games)but music is the reason were there. hey do you have any suggestions for audition pieces? im trying out for a youth orchastra soon
jona
oh thats cool when i was younger i didnt get the opputunoity to play the other instrumnts i wanted to but ill learn them soon
FrenchHornPlayer93
The group I saw perform it was the "Broadway Across America" troup. They were AMAZING! The girl that played Elphaba was sooo good! She was probably better than Idina Menzel! It sounded just like if you were to listen to the CD!!!
FrenchHornPlayer93
You were right!!!!! WICKED was amazing!!!!! I loved it sooo much and didn't want it to ever end! I cried during Defying Gravity because it was sooo good and For Good! LOL =]
jona
have you ever played the clarinet or did you change your mind before you picked it up
jona
i wanted to play oboe a while back but i changed my mind and began playing tuba
jona
wow it sounds to me like you know what your doing when it comes to playing your instrument
FrenchHornPlayer93
KEWL!!! Next Tuesday my mom is taking me to Indianapolis to see it for my birthday!!! =] I don't know what to expect! What should I expect?!
FrenchHornPlayer93
MAN!!! I love Defying Gravity!!! It's sooo totally my life story, no joke!!! Have you seen it live?
FrenchHornPlayer93
I love it too! Well, I haven't exactly seen it yet, but I'm going to see it not this coming Tuesday, but the next!!! I'm sooo excited!!! What's your favorite song from Wicked?
bp_oboist
i hope you do too ! it feels awesome when you get first chair after working sooooo hard for a long time ! i got into the best orchestra in like the western PA area, ohio, and west virginia as an alternate. i beat out two juniors for it lol, i'm so happy. i can't wait for next year because there will be two openings.
bp_oboist
welll we didn't do like first chair, second chair. it was on a rotation.. but i played principal more than the older girls. it was really pointless to do the rotation.
bp_oboist
omg haah i did capriccio espagnol with TRYPO in the 08-09 season ! haha that's really ironic! i played the english horn solo in the second movement.. we also played william tell overture, which i played the solo in too i played like every english horn part there was that year except for two.. our other eh player wasn't very good.
bp_oboist
hah, i have so many oboe concertos and like two english horn solos (the second being quiet city !). and like 20394820394 books. but yet i still get bored when i practice lol.
bp_oboist
Oh, I'm learning an English horn solo for lessons, the worlds ransoming for cor anglais and orchestra by James macmillan. It's a fairly new piece, so my teacher didn't know it yet. it's soo hard, but it sounds awesome.
bp_oboist
wow, that's really good ! what solo is that ? is it hindemith's english horn sonata? (just a guess lol, i onestly don't know)
bp_oboist
haha, well that's okay. i woulda stood up ! lol. my band concert is next week, so i'm excited for that.
bp_oboist
mine went great !! the orchestra got a standing ovation on william tell ! and the crowd went wild when the flute player and i stood up after the overture cause of our solos ! it was great. i bet you got a standing ovation for your solo !
bp_oboist
hey i haven't talked to you in awhile !! have you had your concert yet ? mine's tomorrow !! (12/7) !! check out my pro, i put new vidss on !
tenorsaxist
Hi Abby,
I doing rather well, seeing as I just recieved 9 fox reeds from wwbw.com in the mail today! I was down to only three !****!$y ones! (Never buy chartier!)
Write Back!
bp_oboist
aha, yes, it's the best part !! i'm sure you're gonna sound great at your concert ! good luck !
bp_oboist
ahh! i love the solo at the beginning !!!! that's my favorite part.
bp_oboist
Yeah ! I played through it last night w/ a recording. There were a couple tricky parts.. like the tremolos in the sixteenth notes and then the thirtysecond/sixteenth octave thing.. that was annoying trying to stay in time. Otherwise, I really liked it!
bp_oboist
i got the email ! thanks soo much !!!
Canadian
It's always nice to befriend an oboist =]!
oboegirl
Yesterday I was supposed to have my concert, but while we were driving up there it started to snow and then it started to blizzard! We got there just fine but right when we got there, the orchestra people called and said it was cancelled! And we had just driven 3 hours to get there so we just had to drive back home!
bp_oboist
Oh, I know ! Everyone at TRYPO (the other 2 oboes are okay..) sounds AMAZING !!!! I felt like I wasn't very good after playing with them on the first rehearsal.
bp_oboist
Aha, you'll do fine ! I bet it sounds amazing !
bp_oboist
Ahh !! I would be really excited too !! At TRYPO.. I have the William Tell solo, and I'm sooooo nervous !
bp_oboist
That would be really cool to hear !!
Thanks for the comment on how I sound :D
bp_oboist
Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. It's got a killer oboe part.
bp_oboist
ahh ! you play on a 520 fox english horn !!!!! YOU ARE SO LUCKY !!! I love their english horns !!!!!!
btw. new vid of me playing :D
bp_oboist
haha yeah, the orchestra that i didn't get into played it for their spring concert, and i loved it ! and now it's like one of my favorite symphonies ! thanks for the comment on my video too !
bp_oboist
lol. you'd really like rachmaninoff's symphonic dances !! it has a great oboe part !! the 1st mvt. is my favorite. i like the solo before it goes into the slow part.. it gives you a lot of freedom :]
Canadian
AHH! Is that an english horn is your hand! *screams*
I WANT.
bp_oboist
that stinks. but i bet danse bacchanale is enough to keep any oboist happy :D lol
tenorsaxist
I like the new pic, especially becuase we can see the cor anglias!
bp_oboist
i've never heard of elegy before ! does it have a good oboe part?!
bp_oboist
okay, that's what i was hoping you'd say. thanks!
bp_oboist
do you know who the publisher of your copy of danse bacchanale is? haha i want the oboe part very badly!
bp_oboist
it's awful. i hate it. haha, i'm the oldest (8th grade) along with one girl, and the youngest is 7th grade.. so it's not a huge difference. but the intonation of all of us is terrible. the first 3 chair oboist have the best intonation, and that was how we started off last fall; with 3 (which is when it was pleasant to the ear lol). of course in the spring it grew to 5... and now we have 6 (too much for anyone to handle lol)
bp_oboist
haha yeah, the orchestra i was in last year and this year (i'm in two orchestras at once) plays all these arrangements of music, and it's sooooo boring. i'm basically only there cause the director is so much fun. we now have 6 oboes. yes, 6.
bp_oboist
lol you're so lucky. in TRYPO.. geez. some of the music should be played at a funeral. like bach-stokowski's passacaglia and fugue in c minor!
bp_oboist
oh my god! your orchestra is playing danse bacchanale?!!? YOU'RE SO LUCKY!!!!!! errrrrrr. i really want TRYPO to play it!!! LUCKY!
bp_oboist
i officially picked up an english horn for the first time this year in may. i took 3 months off (cause i had to give usc their eh back). but now that i'm in TRYPO, i have their english horn till january, and probably the second semester if i choose to return (which i most likely will lol )
tenorsaxist
Hi, how are you doing?
You must loce you cor anglais!
JazzOboe
Aw, it's okay! You were probably up against many people, no? Second chair is great in any case.
I love your picture!
Sure, oboes so great jazz! Look up Paul McCandless.
oboegirl
I just found out I got 2nd Chair in the youth orchestra. I was really hoping for 1st, but maybe next year!
JazzOboe
Ah! Same for me! I also mix them up regularly, so no one knows what I'm talking about anyways, they can never be sure!
JazzOboe
I know! The english horn is just great, isn't it? I always say french horn when I'm talking about it, but I never mean to. I need to fix that problem! =]
oboegirl
I can't wait! Youth symphony practice starts in like 12 days! I also get to pick up my music on the 2nd. I think I get to find out what chair I'm in then too! I'm sooo excited!
bp_oboist
wow. that's the exact model i want, a 520! i played on a 500 at my highschool, but i could never use it because it was always in use? i used another school's, and they had a horwarth(sp?), but i don't like them as much as foxes
bp_oboist
foxes are great! what model is it? 500 (wooden), 520 (plastic), 550 (plastic), or a 510 (i think that's the other model.. but i know there's 2 wooden and 2 plastic)
bp_oboist
trypo is 45 minutes away.. which isn't bad sometimes, but it's a pain to get out there
bp_oboist
i need a job.. i want an english horn more than anything right now! i hate how their so expensive though
bp_oboist
hah i know! i ask my brother and sister, and they usually say yes.. but i can't trust them sometimes! i'm trying to get the videos of me playing the english horn, but i'm still trying to figure out how to do that. hopefully i can soon!
bp_oboist
i'm sure you will. i'm hoping the same thing too because the good oboe in that orchestra left for the best youth orchestra in the area, and he got in, and i didn't :\, but i didn't really care.. i was too young anyway. idk whether the 17 year old who auditioned made it, and if so, she might get the solos over me.. which i hope doesn't happen!!
bp_oboist
i know! i hate it! when i borrowed another school's english horn, i recorded myself, and i sounded fine.. but when i played oboe, it sounded duckish..lol
bp_oboist
haha thanks! i hate how i sound in it though.. i sound like a duck!
bp_oboist
yeah, it's really fun. oboes usually get TONS of solos in the originals! i have copland's appalachian spring, and so far oboe 1 has had atleast 7 solos.. maybe more.
bp_oboist
that's great, congradulations! i was just in an orchestra (shjo), but it played like easier arrangements of symphonies. i auditioned for trypo, and got in. they play the real stuff.. which is making me reeally excited!
bp_oboist
congrats! what orchestra did you get into? i was accepted into trypo (young peoples orchestra)
oboegirl
Yay!!!!!!!! I found out about the youth orchestra results and I got in!!!!!!
oboegirl
I had the Audition yesterday and I thought it went very well! they seemed to think that I sounded very good so I don't know. I find out if i get in next friday! I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!
oboegirl
Thanks! Congratulations on getting in on your first try! I hope i can get in!
Oboegirl94nm
I hope your audition goes well! I think that auditions make everyone nervous to a degree, but you get used to it. :D
I'm excited 'cause I made the first youth orchestra I tried out for this year, and I might be getting to go to the Interlochen school :D
iluvoboe565
omigosh oboegirl i luv that commericial. i remember seeing it and screaming "it's and oboe!" or something like that. its funny to!
oboegirl
yeah its my favorite commercial!
ojoe
thats the best ad ive ever seen
oboegirl
The recorder is a great instrument because it it pretty easy to learn, so you should be able to learn pretty fast!
oboegirl
Thanks! I like to dance ballet, so i like this picture too. I haven't met very many people that likes classical music!
JPFM
