Male, 54 yrs old, played trumpet in High School. Am starting to play again but now with a Cornet. I find it more comfortable to handle and like the mellower sound better. Am using a Bach 5C mouthpiece with a Conn Director 15A Cornet, picked up on eBay for $28.00. The horn has some dents , especially at the back end where the bell curve is. The lacquer is still good in most places and the dents don't effect the sound that I can tell, so for the price I am happy. I found that I haven't forgotten how to read music, the fingerings, or the techniques for controlling the sound through the range. My embouchure's improving but I still can't play for long periods. In fact there are a few things I found I was doing wrong to achieve the higher register. Using the 5C put me on to this. I can buzz a sound more easily through a 5C which translates to better control with the horn.
