The 'Linus and Lucy' Peanuts theme is originally by Vince Guaraldi, and was reworked famously by George Winston . It's based on a kind of boogie-woogie bass line that moves between the tonic A

and the 'progressive' chord of C major

I call it progressive because C major is not part of the A major scale so it gives the music an uplifting sense of drive, before it sinks back down to A:

The theme above uses notes from an old classical trick called a horn call:

The old hunting horns used to have a very limited range of notes, so when they moved around in pairs this was a common way for them to do it. Strange place to find it, but there you go.
