This is a great tune for pianists. The main background to the piece is the chord progression shown below.



On top of that, Moby puts drifting piano scales. All the notes on the piano in Porcelain are in the following mode :


This scale is known as a mixolydian mode on Bb. That sounds a bit scary, but it's actually just a Bb major scale with the 7th (normally an A natural) flattened to Ab.




Here's a couple of typical phrases from the piano part - why not play along with the sample and invent your own lines - if you stick to the mode you can't go wrong.

Try to play them very freely - not at all in time with the drum beat.
