I don`t think they are. I had an intermediate model, open hole, low B foot, s.silver head joint...etc. and I always thought it was wispy and shrill sounding.(low notes never came out well.) The mouth pieces on Yamaha`s are better. The air penetrates into the hole better and less air is lost.

Dude, get a pearl. They make student models if your look hard. It has some of the best sound I`ve ever heard, though it`s slightly harder to play.

Armstrongs are okay for students just starting out, I know I liked my beginner flute. Intermediates aren`t as reliable. I would advise that you buy a Yamaha if you want a sturdier and more in-tune model.

Armstrongs are my favorite brand. Both my flutes and my piccolo are Armstrongs but people have different preferences and opinions of the different brands so just try different types out and see how you like them. Hope that helps -Katie

My very first flute was an Armstrong and I love it to death, but Armstrong is not the way to go! They are way to expensive for what they are. If I were you I`d go Gemiendhardt all the way! Beginer, inermediate, and pro. They are the very best! Ask any professional flutist! Thats the brand of my new flute and I have never sounded better! (But if your just going temporary...sure! Go armstrong! Just get a used one. New ones are wwwaaaayyy to expensive! K... L8ter dayz!)

Yes! They are. I just started to play the flute when was taking Summer School classes over the Summer and got a Armstrong flute. And I works great.
