Ive been playing flute for two days now, and i can get a 4th line d and eb down to a g out nicely. Suprisingly nicely actually. But i cant hold them at all. I was just wondering when my breathing capicity will get better, i cant even play melodies or anything yet, just notes. Ive been working on long tones mostly. I know its not a lung issue, i play tenor sax very long with absoulutley no problem. Maybe im pushing too much air out. But if that was the case the notes would want to be skipping an octave, but thats not happening theyre coming out just fine. Any suggestions? Is it just a matter of patience?

No, it is not just a matter of practice. It is a matter of using less air. It sounds as if you need to use about 10 times less air, by blowing through a smaller hole, but with just as much or even more air pressure.

I keep telling you:

....And I think you have been told before... as with an athlete, you are using muscles, which need developing. Don`t expect to be an olympic champion in 3 days!

You seeem to keep asking the same question in different ways.

Not to sound disrespectful or anything, but im a regular at the SaxontheWeb forums, and printed out those lessons from sax to flute by Gordan Palmer days ago. Excuse me for having a simple beginner question about air control, I was just wondering if there was anything I should do about it.

No need to undermine opinions because of age, or experience, that`s just rude

Sorry to snap. IMHO all the advice and info you require to overcome your problem is in those links, which I indeed thought you already had.

There comes a time when there are no magic bullets. You have to get down to the hard grind, and carry out[i/]the advise given.

I think that the person is expecting a bit much for two days of practice. As Arak points out, there are muscles to be developed and higher notes to work with. When they get up to the higher C and more then those muscles that come into play will also help to lengthen the tones. Sure that good flute players develop better ability at the amount of air that they intake but they also use the air more efficiently.

I would suggest a simple exercise.

1)Breathe in.
A full breath so that the abdomon and chest both expand a bit.

2)Close lips.
Hold for an instant.

3)Blow.
Don`t get the tongue involved. The air should emit with a slight P (or a pop) sound with the puff of air. The hole in the lips should be small. -About the size and shape of a half rest should be a goal. Some say an oval or US type football profile. Use a mirror to check this.
Blow 4 short tones and one long one on one pitch. Repeat. Close lips in between the tones. If the lips aren`t in line above each other, (As a person with an overbite might have) then it`s impossible to close the lips properly and when they play higher notes the air stream may point more down. (which is wrong) One needs to make a bit of a muscle with the lips or no sound will form.

BTW: Nice photo Arak

Another point. Some things can`t be taught well over text because a teacher should be present to check, double check and correct the issues. This includes showing the student in any way possible the correct way in a visual as well as aural sense.
One can`t interchange this very well at all in text.
IOW: Get a qualified private instructor and be patient - that is if you don`t have one already.
