You are wasting it by blowing too much of it through too big a hole between your lips, and you are squirting too much of it in the wrong places. :-)

Seanix, maybe you could explain your situation with more detail. What exactly is happening?

Play long notes, focusing on quality of sound, good volume, and blowing hard. Yes hard. Time yourself. Take big breaths. Exhale fully. Keep increasing that time that you last.
Automatically this will correct what needs to be corrected, i.e. the embouchure effectively turning high pressure air form the lungs into a fast, skinny, appropriately shaped, appropriately aimed airstream.
Do it in front of a mirror for visual feedback as to what is changing.
If you get too bored, change to playing from some simple music, trying to play more and more of it in one breath. Don't fall into the trap of playing difficult or fast music. That will interfere with you concentrating on what you need to concentrate on.
Well that's how I mastered it. Obviously there are many approaches. Different ones suit different people.
Make sure you have a high level of general fitness, especially the lungs. Run, chop firewood, ride a bike fast, or uphill, run up stairs, dig holes, dance.... :-)
