Whatever you do, breathe. Just make sure you are calm and take the time to really do your best. And what's up with your band teacher? He/she should be encouraging you. Not telling you that no one has made it in two years and that's a sax. And yes, there are so many flutes that are trying out, but I know for a fact that you will do just fine!

Stay calm and focus on specific areas on your audition piece. If you make staccatos extra precise, that's a bonus. If you have a relaxed, comfortable tone, that's great! The judges look for small spots on top of the big picture. So, even though you might miss a note, you could also have great tone and that would offset the mistake.

Keep working on it. Don't give up. I was the youngest from my school EVER to make it to an important honor band (seriously, this honor band was the same as making All State, maybe even more rigorous. I was the only flute player to not audition for All State that same year from the honor band I made it into!).

Use stress to your advantage. Take a break once in a while, too, from practicing. Overworking yourself will just make things even tougher.

GOOD LUCK!

but also the thing is i used my student flute instead of my advanced flute..so when i sight read i couldnt get my high notes out at all and i know i can on my advanced flute...but my student flute has a much darker tone to it whitch i think sounds okay... so would it make sence to practice on my advanced flute more and get used to it or just use my student flute?...yeahh i get stresed out easyly...i think this time i wont warm up so hard in the practice room ...i like practiced for 4 hours..then i guess my lips got sleepy(lol) and they just gave up at my audition

Eat Bananas.

Serouisly. Eat 1 Banana an hour before your audition, and then one 30 mins before your audition.

I, along with all of my other private teacher's students, swear by it.

The chemicals in the Banana's are supposed to calm your nerves down, and it also gives you an energy boost as well.

Just make sure you drink some water and swish out your mouth as well so you don't have banana getting in your flute.

As I've written here before (pretty often), bananas have no scientific basis for calming you down. The chemicals (B vitamins) that are supposed to do it are in such quantity as to be comparable to the tryptophan in turkey (if you eat enough, you will get drowsy, but you'll have some more severe problems before you reach that point). Besides that, the potassium in bananas acts as a mild stimulant for your nervous system, which cancels out any affect the B vitamins might have. Some people are more susceptible to the placebo effect than others, and this likely explains why some people believe bananas to help calm nerves, but don't place all your hopes on a couple of pieces of fruit.
