this is all verry interesting, i think both of you have a point, flutist 877 or wotever shoul be less mean and stuf, its ok 2 bring up old stuff because beus as jim said, you cant reply to that, i apretiate jims comments, but flutist 877 has a point about wasting (this aplies 2 both of u) this forum isnt for aguing, just ignore each other, jim was right, if you dont like a post, just ignore it

As far as your questions: "what you should expect" and "how good do you have to be?" --- these are difficult to answer in that I don't know how well you play, nor the other flutists in your band, but I'll give it a shot:

From my personal experience in high school, I was never afraid of auditions because of two reasons:

First (I don't know about your band) but in my high school band we were given the option of "challenging", if we felt that we had been unfairly passed over.

Secondly, I was going to be playing as a Freshman, and knew that even if I didn't "pass" the audition, there would be others up-coming.

Again, I don't know about your band, but in mine, there were 3 parts to an audition: (1) you had to play an exercise or composition that all other flutists had to play, so that the band conductor could compare the playing, side-by-side; (2) you had to able to demonstrate your ability to "sight-read" (how I dreaded that part); (3) you will allowed to perform your own recital piece of choice in order to demonstrate your accomplishment(s).

Finally --- don't be nervous. Just get your audition pieces down so well you don't need the music in front of you, if possible.
