Hi!

I am beginning to study this delicious piece. I have a few questions:

- What tempo do you play the Dance of the Blessed Spirits (C. W. von Gluck)?

for the Minueto:
for the Lento:

- Do you play the grace notes as such or you make them 1/8s (or other), for example the one in measure 4, before a 1/2? and the one in measure 12, before a dotted 1/4?

- What general recommendations would you give a student (like me) to play it?

Thanks!

For the minuet, I play it at 72. The lento I think was in the 50's but I've heard it played at foooorrrrrttttyyyyyy which to me gets to be a little slow.

When played well, I think the lento is one of the most beautiful pieces around

I don't remember grace notes in the minuet, so I think mine was written out. My totally amateur assumption, without seeing it, is that they are to not be played as grace notes. I think the piece was written in 1762.

Tips: intonation gets to be important, especially when you get into the few wide leaps in the lento. Also, paying attention to note endings can help give the piece a polished feel.

Thanks Patrick.

The version I bought is from Mel Bay publications Inc(it is the piano score but the flute is also included over the piano staves). It has several grace notes.

But at school I have seen other version that has those grace notes changed into 1/8 (and maybe also 1/4s, but I have no copy).

The only version of it I have is out of Robert Cavally's 24 short concert pieces book.
