Oh, poor you, I didn`t think it would affect flute playing! It affected my clarinet playing but I started flute after my braces came off. After you get your braces adjusted, it might hurt too for a couple of days, just so you`re forewarned.

I got mine on in fifth grade, and then off in seventh. let me tell you, playing the flute for the first time without braces in two years feels wonderful...

But aside from that, once i got used to the braces in my mouth, I was able to play the flute again. It did mess up my embochure a bit, because holding my lips tight over the metal was uncomfortable, so I`ve had to relearn it.

But, as long as you make sure you aren`t to lax on that, it shouldn`t take you long!

It will be worth it!!!! Just think, at the end of it all, you`ll have perfect teeth and your flute playing will be perfect again too. Keep on smiling!!

maybe less!!! It just depends on how much you practice your flute with your new braces! If you practice a lot, a week is about the maximum amount of time it`ll take! ^__^

You might be able to get your sound back within a day, but the quality won`t be very good. I got my braces, and a few days days later, I had an honor recital. I spent my ENTIRE flute lesson a few days before trying to get a sound out. It was a pretty poor performance, but at least I could play (It was less than a week). It all depends on how much time you dedicate to getting your tone back.

Good luck,

When I got my braces I was able to play my flute within the day I got them. Of course the sound wasn`t nearly as good as it had used to be, but if you practice a lot you should be able to get a good, quality sound within a week or so.

i think it would take 3-5 days to be able to play right when you get your braces on.

and maybe a week when you get them off do readjust.

i remember the next day i had band and i got my braces....pain....and when i got my braces off (summer after 7th grade) my teacher said: "You got your braces off, and your tone is much better!"

It also depends upon your treatment plan and the position of the braces. My sister and I couldn`t play a third as well during the time we had braces.

When I got my braces, I wasn`t able to play the flute at all. So I switched to percussion...
