I got my flute for Christmas, it's an open holed, offset G, B foot flute. I have scheduled flute lessons every Wednesday starting January 7th, but she's really used to furthering an already knowledgeable flute player. She said it'd be alright to teach me, but I don't want to be completely lost on January 7th! I have all the fingerings memorized from low B to c3, and I have 2 or 3 major scales down. What should I mainly advert my attention to, though?

Also, two side questions. Should I keep the plugs in the keyholes, or will it hinder my playing later on? The other one, I know you blow fast for high notes, and I got that, I can play as high as a F3 (though it's hard to maintain a good sound). What are some ways to play low notes easier, everytime I push the air "slowly", it just sounds like air passing through the flute.

"I got my flute for Christmas, it's an open holed, offset G, B foot flute."
Sounds nice ;-)

"I have scheduled flute lessons every Wednesday starting January 7th,"
Also very good.
I'd deal with the teacher's suggestions when you get there.

"I have all the fingerings memorized from low B to c3, and I have 2 or 3 major scales down. What should I mainly advert my attention to, though?"
I'd pay attention to smoothness and tone quality. Take your time at this and work for a good sound and always play musically.

"Should I keep the plugs in the keyholes, or will it hinder my playing later on?"
People have varying opinions on that issue. Try without. They are like training wheels for most people. The longer you use them, the more used to them you will become. You aren't going to be performing with the local symphony right away and you have about a good week to try playing this flute without the plugs. Again, take your time and work for a good tone. If you pay attention you may be able to determine if any tone problem is an embouchure (lips/blowing) or a finger hole problem. Pay attention to the fingers covering the holes and take your time.

".......What are some ways to play low notes easier, everytime I push the air "slowly", it just sounds like air passing through the flute."
Most people will play the low notes with a large opening and this has the result of an unfocused tone....possibly to the point of no tone at all. Lower your jaw as if there is an egg inside your mouth. Keep your lips so that the blowing hole is smaller. Keep the corners of your mouth down and work from the middle notes (like C2) down very slowly. One note at a time. Repeat them. Pay attention to the tone and the fingers. I realize that this sounds like I'm repeating this idea but I can't repeat it enough. Also, I'd relax about this and enjoy it all as you go. You won't become a great player if you are in a really big hurry to become one. It takes careful, focused practicing and a great deal of perseverance.
Best wishes,

That's a bit rude, don't you think? With that type of attitude no one is bound to answer now.

Bilbo to the rescue! He's a good teacher :)

Thanks Dear Kara. I needed that right now as I'm striving of late to live up to that idea in the minds of those that study with me. In the realm of inspirational, I just read this following quote at GFC. These words came from a person who signed as Lowell and who lives in the town of Powell River, B.C. Canada:

"If I could give any advice, it would be to keep the love of music,
and the joy of making music, and respect for the students, at the
forefront. (Falling back on your technique and what your teachers
told you doesn't hurt either!)"

You're welcome Bilbo

Nice quote. Thanks for sharing. I don't read the GFC like I should anymore. I know there is a lot of insite on there too.

What does DX mean at the end of the topic? Is it more slang that I am not familiar with?

I thought is was really nice. After the poster demands that we respond to them they then go on to ignore Bilbo's very helpful post without even as much as a thank you. Sorry if I sound snippy, but I am getting rather tired of people wanting help and never returning with so much as a thank you or any kind of follow up on their original posted topic. I think it is very rude. No excuse, no matter what the age of the person is.

Kara - Dx is like a sad emoticon. It's the opposite of xD.

Aha. It could be. I know it's either a card like an sd card, or some computer part. I forget.

No suzie, the only older model of the Muramatsu line is the "standard" model, which I have a copy, btw (30+ years old).

And I go once more with Kara. Let's assume he/she is out for the holidays and could not post a thanks message...

DX is most likely an emoticon.
