As the title suggests, does anyone double on oboe and piccolo? I'm am considering it. And as it seems oboe seems to be very close to piccolo. They both are conical, most are composite/wood, both hard to keep in tune.

It strange though, I've played piccolo a little before (2 weeks about)? And it was easy for me. For my flute playing friend is was quite hard to get such a small opening in the lips. I don't know why it was so much easier for me? Could it be the small oboe reed?

I double on piccolo. I had to take up a different instrument for pepband, and decided to play piccolo because none of our flute players wanted to play it. I actually started on flute, and the hardest thing for me was trying to figure out the embouchure, as it is really different from the oboe!

Micron: Thank you for you post! You're always so knowledgeable!

By the way, I meant to say plastic not composite - although I think there is a pearl composite picc. Anywho, thanks again!
