I'm still looking for a new flute, and I found a Miyazawa vision that I love. I was shocked because every other Miyazawa I've ever tried, I haven't liked at all. It has C# and D# rollers, and a C# trill key. I really don't care about the extras, they just happen to be there. It also has a platinum riser. The problem is that it is heavy wall. I didn't know this was a problem. I have heard several opinions on this and none of it is helpful. I've heard that heavy wall is just a personal preference and some people love it, some hate it. I've heard that the difference in size can cause a lot of hand problems, some so severe that it ended careers. It is very hard for me to believe that such a minute change could really end someone's career. I noticed when I first picked the flute up that is was slightly heavier, but I didn't notice a difference when I began to play. I need help!

oh no, that is just crazy and plain rubbish! there is no way a person could even feel the difference in weight between the two if they did a blind fold test. there isn't even a ounce difference! i have owned a heavy wall miyazawa for over five years and never had a problem. i owned a regular wall miyazawa before this one.

i LOVE the new visions by the way! i only sound good on heavy wall miyazawas myself. the regular walls don't have enough body to me and play on the thin side.

Heh, if people can play fine on wooden flutes, there is no way a heavy wall will cause problems with your hands.

Could the difference with this flute be the cut of the headjoint? I tried a few Miyazawas at a flute fair and HATED all but one of their headjoint cuts. (I really liked that one, though)

The weight difference is maybe half an ounce at most. Basically the difference between a C and a B foot is far heavier, so it's a total non-factor.

No real difference in the sound, IMO, unless you're doing things like humming or doing other tricks(slightly less prone to resonate if you're trying to explicitly make the flute do that).

ie - most players who do beatboxing and other techniques actually want the flute to have *thinner* walls if anything, so it's really not a factor there either as it's a negative if anything.

I like my heavy wall, though, as it *is* a lot less prone to dings and dents and so on. I'd recommend it for any person who uses their flute for gigs or in a band or anything that might result in it getting banged around from time to time.

I agree. I don't think it will do anything to my hands. But, my prof swears that is has ended peoples' careers. I didn't really notice a difference.

Yes, the headjoint made a huge difference. The first headjoint on there was pretty good compared to all the others I've tried. But from the first note, I knew this headjoint was the one.

You should go for it! Miyazawa has really jumped out ahead of the pack with their flutes esp. in recent years. Their mechanism is the BEST, there is a headjoint for almost anyone (lots of choices) and the folks there are so nice. You really can't go wrong. I speak from personal experience as I love my Miyazawa!

Well, the student loan didn't work, and I can't finance it. So, that kills any chance of me getting a new flute afterall.

Did you ask about financing? I'm pretty sure I heard that Miyazawa has a financing program... If you love that flute, I wouldn't let it get away.

I wouldn't be able to make the monthly payments.

Oh that is too bad I play on a 202 but am saving up for a classic. I tried several makes and models but went back to the Miyazawa because it was most comfortable for me to play on and just fit.
