Of COURSE Pyrioni is a master at bending notes! I have heard that he had his posh parents already fly him to another country in order to attend a master class on it. He is the master at everything! I have spoken to some of his fans recently. You wouldn't believe some of the information they told me! A young girl left in tears at one of the master classes because of Pyrioni. It must have been that she was in such awe of his talent!
Custard you are not going to believe what I just found out! Apparently, the Sankyo that Pyrioni put up on his videos and is claiming to be his, is actually his COUSINS flute!!!
Its not binx who has turned the forum in to a joke, its the master of every thing flute, little know it all pyeroni.
Would that be first cousin, second cousin, third cousin, etc. etc.
Hey, maybe it was galway, pahud, trevor wye or one of the other flutist pepperoni knows so well that lent it to him?
They have a pitch bend for a flute solo in "Arabesque" by Samuel R. Hazo. My school's Symphonic band performed it for our winter concert and my friend played the solo (and sounded amazing :D).
I agree with you Micron, the bend really gave me chills especially when I heard it for the first time. I'll post a clip when I get the recording ^-^
Modern composers sometimes add pitch bending to their pieces.
Last year, I played "At the Station" from Eric Whitacre's "Ghost Train" series for wind ensemble. It has a lot of pitch bending. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO2YlTRqmgc (this isn't my band).
Note that on the concert flute "short tube" notes can be bent a lot more than "long tube" notes. So to bend a 2nd octave D, use the trill fingering (C + Tr1) instead of the standard fingering.
