OK so I don't mean to spam the forum with my posts, but this video was just too funny!

There he is, playing the classical Badinerie from Suite in b minor by Bach...then he adds his own CRAZY twists to the music, only to stir up a brief (but absolutely hilarious) reaction from a fellow violinist...this look of WTH? Oh Pahud...

Lol! Fantastic video. The violinist is like, "Hey... nobody told me we're playing jazz today!"

But the video is great, truly inspirational. Nice to hear such a well-known piece of music as if for the first time.

Pahud is great! He has beautiful tones, he always focus on tone in all of his lessons, he won't teach the student if he hears an ugly tone. He is so amazing and playful who persists so much on tone.

At each Repeat of badinerie, it's supposed to be playful and change the notes, even the great Zoeller was changing the notes:

Have you heard badinerie in A-minor before? it's more challenging to playing A-minor and in single tonguing:

I mean in Pahud's video at 0:47, that violin player shouldn't look at Pahud like he was surprised, because that sliding ornament at 0:47 was very commonly used in Badinerie, so it is no surprise to that violin player. but he should look at Pahud at 0:58 , then that would be more funny :)

It was expected and even REQUIRED in the Baroque era for performers to ornament and decorate the notated melody -- not just in repeated sections but even in the first sections themselves. No flutist in the Baroque era would have played Bach's Suite #2 WITHOUT such ornaments.

We are accustomed to hearing the music without ornaments. But most period-music and early-music performers have been adding such ornaments for decades. Pahud has learned well from them!

Very nice rendition. It's very appropriate that I listened to it today. Today (Jan 27) is Emmanuel Pahud's birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!

I should have mentioned that he's now an old man of 40. ;)

travel2165, yea, your right, thanks! But I think nowdays only in the repeat sections becuz to respect the composer's original work in 1st section? also, in Mozart's flute sonatas we also ornament this way in the repeats

musicman_944, yea, he is older and his belly is bigger and bigger each year(check out my profile photo), also his M-shape hair is lesser and lesser, but he still has a great tone, and don't know why local girls of all age love him and still think he's the most handsome flautist.

I agree Pyrioni, 0:58 was the real crazy part of Badinerie...if the violinist gave the look at 0:58, the video will be a whole lot funnier. Still, that look was just priceless.

And yes I am a Pahud admirer. He IS handsome, excuse me...
