Hello everyone. I've been told in the past that it's not a good thing to transcribe certain pieces of music from one instrument to another, however that in circumstances it's acceptable. I was wondering if it would be considered "musically blasphemous" (ha, made up terms rule) transcribe pieces from the violin to flute, particularly more virtuoso pieces such as Paganini's Carnival of Venice (obviously some of the variations are a no-go).

I mean, I love this piece so much like a lot of other theme and variations like Schubert's Trockne Blumen. I mean, I suppose it couldn't be too bad to transcribe it, in my flute choir we played Enigma Variations and it sounded quite passable

Go for it! I recenctly played a violin part with a bell choir. The challenges were a lesser range so I had to jump octaves, and a few places with no opportunity to breath.
