Hi people! I have a dilemma. My chromatic scale is okay from low E to High C, but when I get above the C my brain puts a mental block on C# to G! My auditions are in 2 weeks. Should I slow down and only do from low E to high F or shoot for those notes and hope for the best?! Feel free to leave your own advice. Thank you.

Well if its in two weeks, you have time to practice. Everday this is what you do:
1. Play through the whole scale slowly
2. Play through the whole thing at a walking tempo
3. Play through it all as fast as you can
4. Take the C#-G VERY SLOWLY a couple of times
5. Take the C#-G and play it faster each time
6. Play the whole thing again from slow to fast

**You can do each step as many times as you need to**

I hope this helps you and good luck and tell us later how your tryouts went!

Thank you for the advice. I`ll take it to heart. My audition in two weeks shouldn`t bother me too much. It`s my orchestra audition that`s the killer... It`s a LONG way away, but it`s required that I play from low E to G and all of the 3 octave scales. I supply my own solo, but they supply hard sightreads to be done at their tempo. I`ll let you know about my in two weeks.

Another thought is this:

1. Play the chromatic from fourth space E to one line above A.
2. Play it again.
3. When you can play that quite fast - then remove your LH pointer for the whole exercise.
C#-F# is just like the E to A only it`s missing one finger. Then all you have to do is work on adding the G.

Chromatically Yours,
Dennis
