Hey everybody!I was wondering do any of you have a problem with a lot of people in your band constantly making it their sole duty to tick of the band director? I do. It's been about 3 days in a row now that the clarinets and flutes have been scared senseless because the director has been yelling at the top of his lungs to the low brass and trumpets. Personally, I think they do it for sport... seeing how far they can push him. Well, today they pushed him to another extreme. He got so fed up with the dumb low brass and trumpets blasting that he screamed at the top of his lungs(this isn't the first time he's done it),"GET THE D*** HORNS UP AND PLAY THE D*** MUSIC YOU STUPID JACKA****!I AM REALLY PISSED!" The band got really quite and then broke into a fit of laughter! As if that were funny! Sometimes I think they're demons...Our band contests are in about two weeks!

just goes to show you how immature your band is.

noone in our school.. no, noone in our district would even think twice about disrespecting our high school director.

he was wrong, as well, to blow up like that. however, if your band and director were focused on music and there to learn there would be no tolerance for them and they would be kicked out.

I think almost everyone in your band program, even the director, is really immature. There is absolutely no reason for a director to yell that kind of language. No reason. Especiallly not in a public school setting.

As far as your fellow musicians go, I'd suggest that someone's who's pretty high up in the program, a senior or a president of something, should speak to the whole band about their incredible rudeness.

Props to you and your section. If you have friends in other sections, talk to them individually. They can then pass info along to their sectionmates.

Hopefully some of this will help you. Good luck!

Despite what the others said, that is a REALLY comon problem in school band departments.
A kid gets a letter in 4th grade from the principal suggesting they join either band, foreign language, chorus, or some other elective so they BEG their parents to buy them a trumpet from a local music store. Inexperienced with purchasing instruments, the parent gets ripped off and forces the kid to stay in band till they've gotten their money's worth out of the instrument. The kid loses interest once they realize work is involved so they start to disrupt class. You'll notice it becomes worse in other classes as students get closer to the age that it is legal to drop out of school.
I hope it gets better!! Look forward to college. People can't get away with that there.

Eep.

Golly gee, that sounds horrible. o.o; My band's not like that. We have immature people in our band (in the trumpet and percussion sections), but our band teacher is fabulous and no one disrespects her.
I think just about every highschool band has immature people in it. Just, some are more severe than others.
I pray things go better later on. It's no fun when people mess up band class by irritating the teacher.

OH YEA, i know how it feels. Our clarinet and flute sections is great..but the restof the band. HMMM. It is SO ANNOYING to go through it everyday. My band director is a nice guy but no one gives any respect to him. I feel so sorry for that guy. We get nothing done. I mean we could play great..but no one gives any effort now. We talk half the time..it's very sad. I just can't wait for the higher band...freshman band stinks. NO RESPECT.

My entire band is always disresptuful to our band directors, i was always in the top band, and i know that it is def not any better there, people tend to have attitude problems because they think they can play.

I'mdisrespectful to my band instructor. But she hates me. So I make her life hell and all she says is "Oh gosh Nudel, you look flushed" (when I'm having a screaming fit at the wall).

Just the other day, my band director made up a new rule. He told us if he caught anyone with food, drinks other than water, gum, talking, or playing when we're not supposed to, then you would first get a warning and then if you were caught again you would have to write about music in the Baroque period. Of course there were some up to the challenge and were stuck in the hall writing, getting an F for the day. I couldn't believe that he actually sent our first chair clarinetist out in the hall for playing and talking! She was the last person you would expect to get caught. I was kind of happy because she was talking over me and I was tired of asking her to not talk and pass stuff over me.

ok i understand that both the director and the band were out of line, but come on, its a high scholl band . . .children are going to be children, as bad as that may suck, and band directors are gonna get !***!ed and blow up. that is what makes the world go round.
