I understand that you have to breath so that if you put your hand on your stomach you should feel it rise. But I can only breath with my stomach pushing in. Anyone know how I can breath using the diaphram?

this is going to sound really weird but lie down and breath see if this works, apparently you automatically breath from your diaphragm when lying down. Then see if you can work out what is different about your breathing when lying down compared to standing up and try to apply how you breath lying down to how you breath standing up. I know this sounds bizzare but it worked for three of my friends, I can't say personally because I never had the problem but like I said, it worked for my friends and that was what my teacher recommended to them. Let me know if it helps. take care. shelly belly x

Lying down to feel your stomach move is an excellent suggestion. lay down and put a hand on your stomach, and breathe naturally. Then mimic that feeling when you breathe sitting up. They really should be the same. I promise, it's possible! Good luck!
