I play the Bass Clarinet! I think its better than the regular. I like being different...and I`m the only one currently in our school. in the 6th grade band, they have 13 clarinets and 12 of them want to play bass now! I inspried them! One of them asked what it was and my band teacher had me come in and play my solo in Bourree and now they want to switch! I`m a leader for once!

I play bass clarinet, always wanted to play contra bass. Unfortunately I live in a little town where I don`t have anyone, or a group to play with in georgia.

In my town, Sierra Vista, Arizona...we only have one contra-bass at the highschool and someone is already using it...but in two years they`ll be gone and either me or the other Bass Clarinet at the highschool, Kelly. I`m not in highschool yet...so i haven`t gotten to see it up close and everything. Does the conta-bass play in treble or bass clef? and on the bass clarinet...does all of them have the little hole in the F# key? (left handed pointer finger) And what is that for? I heard it was to make it easier to get out high notes...but it dosen`t help me at all...

We`ve also got one Contrabass Clarinet I might give it a shot over the summer or something.

And we have 2 extended Bass Clarinets and 1 is graduating next year from Symphonic Band. 2 Bass Clarinet players are quitting from Concert Band and there will only be me and the fellow who is playing the Extended so I have a chance at going up to Extended or even Contrabass =).

How does the contrabass sound? I`m just curious it looks like a nice instument to play.

dude I play bass and i love it i played Bflat for 6 months then switched to bass i have my own now if you are think ing about marching think about your neck and your sound bass isnt a marchin instrament the sound if flar and not loud at all try tenor sax becaues it is almost identicle to the upper register on the bass.and if you are up to the challenge you can try bari sax but be careful it`s in a different key Eflat very hard if you have been on the b flat instraments.this is not a beginner wind instrment do clarinet for 6 of 7 months to get the air and fingerings down the are identicle!!have fun

I`m sixteen. You make it sound as if I have nothing better to do. I play in school and in marching band, and occasionally, I practice at home.

I know what some people mean about the accompaniments [sp?] being annoying. We`re playing First Suite in E flat at my school and all the bass clarinet solos are accompanied by baritones, it really sets me off. No appreciation.

But next year we`re playing A Festive Celebration, which has awesome bass clarinet parts, but they`re extremely hard.

Take care, guys.

all of my `solos` come with either baritone..but when ever baritones have a solo...its not accompineded by me!!! its not fair at all! but in a lot of the duets between me and the baritone, i can play it a lot better then he can and he plays softer so its mainly me!
