hey. I don't play clarinet. I mostly play guitar and drums and can/have played alto sax, so this is all foreign to me. My girlfriend however does play the clarinet.
She plans on going to University next year to be a music teacher but is stressed about the money side of things. So, I've decided to try and take some of that pressure off by buying her clarinet for her. I have no idea which kind would be good though. She mentioned that good clarinets that she's looked at are around $2500 (canadian) so if you could think of brands around that it would probably help me find one she'd like.
I quickly looked through ebay and Selmer and Buffet seem to be the more popular in that price range.
Anyway. If anyone could direct me to a good clarinet for a person that wants to enter University playing it, and also to a place that I could purchase it at a cheaper price. I don't mind paying full price but it'll take a bit to save up for since I have another $1500 of my school to pay for first.
Anyway. Thanks for any replies.

Don't you ever buy a clarinet without the player having to try it first!!!!

I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude, but that really is the truth.

Every clarinet is different (even when the brand is identical) and the most expensive isn't always the best.

Just take your girl with you to the music store and let her try and compare clarinets until she fins one that really fits her needs (that can sometimes take a whole day).

Good luck!

Thanks. I'll have to be sneaky because she hates when I offer to pay for dinner even, so she wouldn't accept it unless it was already bought lol.
I suppose I could go with her when she's looking at them and whichever one she says she likes most come back and get later.
Good advice. Thanks
